“What is osteopathy?”

Osteopathy is a system of diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of medical conditions.  It works with the structure and function of the body, and is based on the principle that the well-being of an individual depends on the skeleton, muscles, ligaments and connective tissues functioning smoothly together.

To an osteopath, for your body to work well, its structure must also work well.

Therefore osteopaths work to restore your body to a state of balance, where possible without the use of drugs or surgery.  Osteopaths use touch, physical manipulation, stretching and massage to increase the mobility of joints, to relieve muscle tension, to enhance the blood and nerve supply to tissues, and to help your body’s own healing mechanisms.  They may also provide advice on posture and exercise to aid recovery, promote health and prevent symptoms recurring.

Patricia Bishop

Patricia established the Flitwick Osteopathic Clinic in April 1994 to provide osteopathic healthcare to her local community.

She enjoys all aspects of practice and her approach to osteopathy is to identify the cause of your problem, relieve your pain, increase your mobility and aid your body's natural ability to heal itself. She may give you postural or lifestyle advice and may suggest some exercises or stretches. Her goal is to work with you to help your body adjust to the strains of everyday life.

From a young age, Patricia wanted to pursue a medical career. After witnessing her father’s periodic, crippling back pain episodes that were always successfully alleviated by an osteopath, she decided to study osteopathy.

Patricia is happily married and has two sons and a little madam of a cat. She keeps fit with daily brisk walks, Ballroom/Latin and 50’s Jive/Rock n Roll lessons and is put through her paces by her personal trainer. She enjoys trying new recipes, nurturing her orchids and watching the birds in her garden.

Silva Schuldt

Silva qualified as an osteopath in 1999. She is passionate about her work and strives to increase her skillset by attending a variety of courses.

She treats patients of all age groups, from newborn babies to the older generations. Silva has a wide range of different treatment options in her tool kit, which allows her to personalise your treatment to your individual requirements.

Silva’s favourite patients are babies and children and she likes looking after expecting mums too. She has completed masters-level studies in specialist osteopathy for babies and children and is also a qualified Infant Feeding Coach, which enables her to help new parents with their breast- and bottle-feeding journey. She is currently training to become a tongue-tie assessor.

Silva places great emphasis on effective communication with you, gives advice on how you can help yourself, and thrives on helping you recover quickly and achieve your health goals.

Silva became interested in how the body works when she regularly attended classes at a dance studio and noticed how much her body changed. When she then heard about osteopathy, she instantly knew that this was what she wanted to do. She has never looked back to the office jobs she left behind.

When Silva is not working, she is busy looking after her two cats and her garden. She loves walking in nature and creating art with acrylic paints. She is also volunteering with Divinity Foundation in Kenya, a charity that provides free healthcare for women and children living in poverty. To date, she has taken part in two humanitarian missions to Kenya and is looking forward to go again in the future. Silva is also part of the Divinity Foundation Europe team to help raise funds for the charity’s Kenyan Rescue Centre for girls fleeing physical and sexual abuse, forced prostitution, and FGM.

Anne Johnson

Anne has been working as an osteopath for over twenty years.

Anne loves working with you, regardless of your history, to identify the cause of your aches and pains. She strongly believes that you don’t have to put up with all those annoying niggles that are often blamed on your age. She particularly enjoys working with you to improve your quality of life.

Anne always tailors your treatment to your individual needs. She also likes to empower you to take charge of your own wellbeing by explaining what she is doing and why and advising on steps you can take yourself.

From 4 years of age, Anne wanted to do something medical. When she was in her teens, her mum was helped by an osteopath. Not long after, osteopathy came up as a possible option on a careers questionnaire, there was a programme about osteopathy on TV, and an advert for an osteopathic school in her parents’ newspaper and that sealed her decision to try to become an osteopath herself.

Anne has a husband and five children who keep her busy. She can often be found with a screwdriver or a paintbrush in her hand as she and her husband usually have some sort of DIY project on the go!

When she has time to herself, she spends it doing arts and crafts or curled up with a book. She loves going boating with her whole family but, unfortunately, her hamster has to stay at home!
